1 Corinthians 14:1-3 ESV
" Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For the one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their up building and consolation."
Excerpt from Basic Training for the Prophetic Ministry by Christ Vallotton:
"It doesn’t take a prophetic gift to see the sin in sinners or the junk in the lives of Christians. It does require the eyes of God, though, to see broken people like Simon (Simon means “broken reed”) and in the midst of their brokenness, call them Peter (Peter means “Rock”). True prophetic ministry is looking for gold in the midst of the dirt in people’s lives (p.14)."
We are instructed in the bible to eagerly desire the spiritual gift of prophecy. Simply, prophecy means hearing, seeing or feeling something from God that is meant to encourage someone else. God desires you to have this gift.
PRAYER FOCUS: Ask Jesus to teach and lead you in the gift of prophecy. Take a few minutes in prayer to ask Jesus who he wants you to pray for and encourage today. If someone comes to mind, pray for them.
